SB20 Rigging & Sailing Guide Training

Hi guys,

As we are approaching the SB20 Asia-Pacific Championship that would take place on January 16-18 2014, it is time to review the Rig Tuning advices from Colin Simonds' training that he conducted in March 2013.

Here's the snip about the rig tension and the concept of "Tension Difference" that bends the mast forward:

Here's the video -- MUST WATCH

The two documents distributed at that training are attached for your convenience as well:

Cheers!

January 16-18 2014 - SB20 Asia-Pacific Championship

20th Singapore Straits Regatta To Play Host To Inaugural SB20 Asia Pacific Championships

The SB20 fleet will be racing for more than just the Singapore Straits Regatta medals in January 2014. Organisers are elated to confirm that the event will also see the SB20 fleet contesting for the Asia Pacific Champion title.

The regatta within a regatta will see some of the regions best SB20 and keelboat sailors vie for honours over 3 days – 16th, 17th and 18th January 2014. Challenging conditions await the teams as they will be racing off the southern stretch of east coast beach in the seasonal northeast monsoon winds. The offshore breeze and short chops would ensure that the fleet is well tested.

Singapore’s local SB20 fleet is expected to be out in full force, and with the Singapore Sailing Federation’s fleet of 8 boats joining in the fray, it is expected that the entries will surpass the 20-boat entry at the recent Western Circuit Sailing Regatta held at Raffles Marina in August.

As in 2013, the Federation will be putting up its fleet of boats for charter at  subsidised rates for participating teams without a boat. Interested teams are invited to send enquiries to info@singaporesailing.org.sg

Charter rates:

  • 320 SGD for 3 days of racing + 1 practice day
  • 500 SGD security deposit

Western Circuit 2013 Video

Hello everyone!

Please check this latest video from SMU - Raffles Marina annual Western Circuit 2013 regatta:

SB20 class had 20 boats on the starting line!

Check out the TackTracker for the battle's traces -- http://tacktracker.com/cloud/regattas/show/258436636

All press coverage for 2013 event is available off links here , on official Western Circuit web-site. Here's a snip from Singapore Sailing Federation's web-site, for example:

The SB20 fleet turned out in full force again for the final day of racing on Saturday 24th August and was welcomed with splendid sailing conditions – glorious sunshine and 10 to 12 knots of steady breeze.

Many newcomers to the one-design boat were now accustomed to nuances and were now ‘battle hardened’’ after the first weekend’s baptism. But for all, the 20-boat fleet and close starts, roundings and many ‘contact situations’ made for good fun and learning opportunities.

In the 3 final races held off Raffles Marina, there were some upsets to the pecking order. Anthony Kiong, Stanley Chan and Colin Ng in their chartered boat from the Audi Singapore Youth Sailing Academy took no prisoners and bagged 3 straight bullets. Some wins were close as the positions often changed on each leg due to the strong but puffy conditions as the wind shifted towards the south westerly, coming off the coastline.
The other teams were not far behind, with Glasgow Kiss recovering with 2 second placings after an off-form day opener in 21st position. Katana (Bill Lydens), Pocapena (Michael Buchanan), Scumbag (Jonathan Mahony) and Tara (Nik Burfoot) were often in the front pack and traded places in close finishes.

The overall title went to Glasgow Kiss, helped largely by the lead they held from the first weekend, and Nils Razmilovic, Jeremy Chase and David Salembier hoisted the regatta trophy.
