SB20 Autumn Series 2014

We had 12 wonderful races in three Saturdays with nine boats competing for the Autumn Series.
The recently baptized Werner took the trophy with a consistent good sailing with almost no mistakes and leaving the second and third place to Razzmatazz and Wallababy.

SB20 Asia-Pacific Championship Report

Hello everyone!

The 2014 SB20 Asia Pacific Championship was held in Singapore the 16th – 18th of January.
The SB20 Singapore Fleet participated as a class in the 20th annual Singapore Straits Regatta. Sixteen SB20 boats participated, including teams from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Thailand

The 2014 SB20 Asia Pacific Championship was blessed with spectacular North-East Monsoon conditions! Strong, constantly shifting winds kept both sailors and the race committee on their toes. Spring tides were an added challenge, along with wayward barges and a few spectator boats that accidentally wandered onto the start line.

Several past and present Singapore national sailors put up a terrific fight, with the Zenith Sailing Team, skippered by Xu Yuan Xhen leading the way straight to the championship. Second place was taken by Team Xcellent from the UK, skippered by John Pollard. Third place was secured for Team Pocapena. Skippered by Mike Buchanan, Team Pocapena scored three straight bullets on the final day to push Team Glasgow Kiss (last year’s champion) down a notch to fourth place. Fifth place went to Anthony Kiong on SSF17.

The highlight of each day’s sailing was the ride back from the race course, set on Singapore’s East Coast, to the host yacht club, ONE°15 Marina Club, some five miles to the West, at the tip of Sentosa Island. With the strong North-East winds, the boats enjoyed a fast, fun sleigh ride home following each day’s racing, with speeds in excess of 16 knots.

So, to all our United Kingdom, European and US readers, - plan to spend the next winter's chilly days in Singapore, guys!
